Wrapping Things Up in #ENG3U and #ICS2O

Hi! It’s already time to start wrapping things up for the semester – and school year. As of today, there are only 10 days of school left before exams. Monday is a PD Day, so that also breaks things up. In both English and Computer Science, students are well on their way to completing their final tasks.

ENG3U – Grade 11 University English: We are in the process of wrapping up a very short look at Beowulf, an important early English text that explores the idea of heroes. We also looked at how this epic connects with the other major texts from this semester. More importantly, students are presenting their Canterbury Tales independent study work. I’m looking forward to these presentations because this group is all about discussion, engagement, and creativity. A bulk of the class will be heading on the Outers Spring Trip after next week, so our class will be small for the final week of classes.

ICS2O – Grade 10 Computer Studies: Students have done a phenomenal job creating business websites. What really amazed me about this group was the ability of a few students to go above-and-beyond and include some actual scripts in their page, (if you’re not sure what these are, students used a language called Javascript, which controls some interactive/multimedia elements on a page.) Really, really cool. Here are some examples:

The class is now transitioning to the final culminating assignment for the course, which involves students choosing any programming language of interest and creating a game or program that meets specific criteria.

Make these next ten days count, folks! 🙂
