Welcome to ICS2O! This course is new to GCHS and comes after popular demand for a hands-on course that introduces students to parts of computers, programming, and problem-solving.
In this course there are a few things that we cover:
- Hardware and Software components
- Programming and Coding, including websites and a variety of programming languages
- Digital Citizenship and Responsible Internet Use
Officially, the course is described like this:
This course introduces students to computer programming. Students will plan and write simple computer programs by applying fundamental programming concepts, and learn to create clear and maintainable internal documentation. They will also learn to manage a computer by studying hardware configurations, software selection, operating system functions, networking, and safe computing practices. Students will also investigate the social impact of computer technologies, and develop an understanding of environmental and ethical issues related to the use of computers.
You might already know some of these things because as citizens of Generation Z, you’ve been exposed to tech your whole life. So if you have ideas, suggest them. Enjoy the class… it’s yours!
