Tomorrow, the Class of 2017 will walk the stage at the GCHS Commencement Ceremony. It’s hard to believe that these students were in Grade 9 four years ago. Often, it feels like it was yesterday.
Just as hard to believe is that tomorrow marks the last day for about half of my ENG3U – Grade 11 English students. The departing half will be heading on the Outers Spring Trip where they will battle the bugs and the weather for eight days. As such, we have wrapped up most content in English. Students did an amazing job with their Independent Study Unit tasks, including writing some good literary essays and presenting some amazing work with their studies of The Canterbury Tales. The engaging discussions and participation made this task really worthwhile. The Final Exam for Outers is on Saturday, June 16 from 1pm-4pm. For everyone else, the exam is on Tuesday, June 27 from 10am-1pm.
The ICS2O – Grade 10 Computer Science class is working away at final culminating projects. Students are using their knowledge and experience from the course to create a final, original program using a programming language of their choice. I’ve seen adventure games and Magic 8-Balls in Python, fun action games in Scratch, and choose-your-own-adventure games in HTML/CSS. Students have six(!) more days to complete these projects as the course ends on Friday, June 23.
I’ve said this before, but I really want to thank my students for an awesome semester. I’m very privileged to have such engaging, enthusiastic, and entertaining people in my classroom. I wish all of my students the best with their final tasks as the semester wraps up. I also have mark updates available if students want to see me before the semester ends. Otherwise, thanks for a great Semester Two!
