Weekly Update – #ENG1D #ENG4C #NBV3E

It’s already the halfway point of semester one! This week and next week are short weeks with the Easter long weekend. Also, students will be receiving midterm report cards in the next few weeks as teachers prepare the reports and forward information to the office.

ENG1D students are focusing on essay writing and the novel study The Chrysalids. Information for essay writing will be added to the Lessons section of the ENG1D part of the site soon.

ENG4C students are still focusing on business writing. Students have been doing a mix of textbook work, including the articles “Beware Illegal Questions”, and “Rookie Errors”. Students are working on letter writing skills and will also learn report writing this week.

NBV3E students have made it to the halfway point of the play Rez Sisters. Students have been very involved with the play, volunteering to read out loud as we discuss the themes, characters, and plot items within the play – and how they all relate to issues we’ve discussed in class. Thanks to those who read regularly!

Wishing everyone a fantastic week! Enjoy the upcoming Easter weekend!

Lesson & Assignment Updates #ENG1D #ENG4C #NBV3E

Hello!

Copies of many lessons and assignments have been added to course pages. Use the menu at the top of the site to navigate – or the site’s search function. This is important because the cut-off for assignments is this Friday, April 11 as midterm marks have to be prepared.

ENG1D students are into the first few chapters of The Chrysalids. It is important that students keep up-to-date on their reading as we will be moving through the novel fairly quickly. Students will also begin essay writing this week and next.

ENG4C students are starting the Business Communications unit, which focuses on some aspects of college-level writing. Students will be doing some research and writing over the next few weeks.

NBV3E students have started the play “The Rez Sisters” as of today. I have divided the play into several parts and it is important that students attend regularly to ensure they know what’s going on in the play.

If you have any questions about what’s happening in the course, need some extra help, or want to chat about your progress in the class, please let me know. Have a great week!

Grade 9 Poetry Rocks! #ENG1D #ENG4C #NBV3E

My Grade 9 English ENG1D class recently completed a Poetry Collection assignment and the results are among the most thoughtful and creative I’ve ever had the pleasure of receiving. I’m happy to share some of the poetry with you here. I’d like to photograph every page of every book, but right now here’s a preview:
