Listening Skills

Today, #ENG2D students focused on the importance of listening through an instructional activity I like do lead. Students followed these instructions by listening to verbal cues to create a shape:

Students quickly learned about classroom distractions, key words and the importance of hearing. That lead to a chat about reading and listening strategies to maintain focus and build success in school.

What are your strategies to pay attention when reading and listening?

What a Great Start!

The first week of classes has come and gone and students have settled into their new classes. I’m pretty pumped about ENG3U, BTA3O and ENG2D and students’ willingness to participate, perform inquiry and get stuff done.

This Week…
ENG3U students will focus on essay writing, including info on different types of essays and a focus on the personal essay and the persuasive essay. I’d also like to spend a class in a computer lab to set up individual WordPress Blogs. Students, if you want, you can do this at home, too.

BTA3O students will continue personalizing their WordPress Blogs and then we will spend some time learning about some of the finer feature of Microsoft Word this week.

ENG2D students are going to focus on clear, detailed and effective writing, which will be a lead into the Essay unit. I also want to play with WordPress Blogs in this class, too.

Have a great week, everyone!

Do You Tweet?

I’m big on social media. It’s a great place to turn to for answers to questions, sharing of ideas, and general information. I really love how Twitter‘s use is expanding into schools.

If you’re a student, parent/guardian, or otherwise interested person, I encourage you to follow me for school-related information. I will use hashtags like #ENG3U, #BTA3O and #ENG2D to organize school-related stuff. Never used Twitter but want to learn? Come see me and I will happily teach you.
