It’s April and It’s Still Snowy. #ENG1D #ENG4C #NBV3E

Hello, Everyone!

Sorry – I missed doing some updates to the site. Things have been incredibly busy. I figured an update was important because midterms are being prepared in two weeks. That means if you’re a student missing assignments now would be a good time to get caught up. This is especially key if you’re a potential grad!

ENG1D students are going to begin The Chrysalids novel study this week. Students might benefit from checking out The Chrysalids Wikipedia Page. Students are expected to have their Poetry Books completed on Monday, April 7. Pretty excited to see final results. Will post some!

ENG4C students are just about to finish Crow Lake. The novel took some work for people to get through but most found it interesting, (even if the end was the only part they enjoyed). Students also did a good job working with argumentative essays in the last few weeks. Second revisions have mostly been handed in. Great work. Next up: Business English.

NBV3E students have been spending some time focusing on relationships. This includes the Seven Teachings of the Grandfathers, the Medicine Wheel, and natural resources. Next week, students will finally begin checking out Tomson Highway’s play The Rez Sisters. It’s one of my favourite units and I’m hoping students this semester enjoy it, too.

I have quite a few assignments and lessons to add to the site, which I will endeavour to do in the next few days. In the meantime, please contact me if you have questions about any assignments or your success in your class.

Have a wonderful week, everyone.

It Doesn’t Feel Like the End of March! #ENG1D #ENG4C #NBV3E

Hello! It is definitely frosty outside…still. Well, at least we have heat in the classrooms. This week will be busy, (as usual) with a number of items. They include:

ENG1D will be completing their unit on poetry this week. Students will learn a few other poetic forms and then demonstrate their knowledge with some writing. Students will be seeing a quiz/short test that includes elements of the short story unit and the poetry unit. Finally, poetry ends with a Poetry Anthology assignment.

ENG4C students should be done their Argumentative Essay. As this moves aside we will continue to focus on Crow Lake, moving towards the last half of the novel. Students will have a quiz early in the week up to the end of Chapter 10. The quiz will focus on some quotes, as well as plot, conflict, characters, and themes within the novel. Students will then move to writing a literary essay regarding the novel.

NBV3E students have completed Unit 1 – Identity. Students finished the unit by creating a project related to why and how knowing about Residential Schools is important. Our new unit, Relationships, starts with a focus on the land. It involves a project about small business creation and will also allow us to begin the Tomson Highway play Rez Sisters, which is usually tons of fun (though serious, too!).

Here’s hoping everyone has a great week.

Weekly Update: #ENG1D #ENG4C #NBV3E – And March Break on the Way!

Greetings!

This is a short week, as Friday, March 7 is a P.D. Day, which means although staff will be at school, you won’t need to come if you’re a student – so enjoy an extra-long March Break!

Here is what’s happening this week, including notes for how to keep learning during the March Break:

ENG1D students are wrapping up their Short Story Unit with a quiz on Monday. Students have been working on a short story assignment last week and rough copies are due on Monday as well. The class will now be starting a short unit on Poetry!

Over the March Break, students should be reading the first novel, The Chrysalids.

ENG4C students are working on the novel study for Crow Lake and many  students are enjoying the story so far. The themes and characters are very relevant to many people. Students will do some work with the novel this week but the focus will move towards essay writing (which was started last week) and argumentative/persuasive essays.

During the March Break, students should continue reading Crow Lake.

NBV3E students will focus on Residential Schools this week. This is a somber yet important part of our unit on Aboriginal Identity. The CBC has a very interesting and information section on Canada’s Residential Schools that may be of interest. Students will focus on background information, the lasting effects of the school system, and what we can do to help make things right again.

I should also have mark updates available by  the end of the week for all classes. If you know you’re missing assignments, (especially those of you in ENG1D) you are responsible for making an appointment to see me so we can discuss success strategies.

Thanks, and have a fantastic week.
