Printmaking in #ALC1O

Today, we begin our final activity in ALC1O – Grade 9 Art. Next Thursday is the final day in the course before students head off to the drama component the following week. I really enjoy printmaking because it involves some problem-solving, some creativity, a bit of patience, and ultimately the enthusiasm of students as they see their work completed.

Here are the steps we will follow, with some examples displayed:

Students who need to catch up on any other assignments, (especially those who are finishing acrylic paintings), need to arrange to come in at 12:05pm Activity Period.

Looking forward to sharing completed prints. Thanks and enjoy the rest of the week!

Great Work in #NAC2O and #ALC1O

It has been a very creative and very artistic couple of weeks in both NAC2O – Grade 10 Native Studies and ALC1O – Grade 9 Art. Students have been working hard and have created some beautiful pieces of art. There are only two weeks left before the Grade 9s will transition from art to drama. This also marks the middle of the semester, so parents, guardians, and students can expect midterm reports in the next few weeks.

In Native Studies, we have spent some time practicing beadwork. We were really lucky to have community members come in and share some knowledge with us, and the results have been amazing, (except for my piece, which is less than stellar…but I’m learning!)

In Grade 9 Art, we’ve been focusing on a variety of art media, including acrylic on canvas in the style of woodlands art as well as plaster castings with acrylics. Here’s a sampling of some final products from this class:

This Week in #NAC2O and #ALC1O

Hi everyone. Well, I was almost certain that the warm weather was but a memory but this past weekend’s heat wave proved me wrong.

Though hard to believe, we are already a third of the way through the semester. As such, progress reports and parent/teacher interviews are scheduled for the week. Please see www.gchs.ca for details.

This week, NAC2O Grade 10 Native Studies students will continue working with beading for Tuesday and Wednesday. I can’t wait to post more pictures of the amazing work being done. On Thursday our class starts the StreetWolf program through the Thunderbird Friendship Centre.

ALC1O Grade 9 Art students will split up into two groups this week. One group will focus on acrylic painting in the style of woodlands art while the other group will practice mask-making.

In the past, students have created some vibrant masks and paintings so I’m pretty excited!

As always, let me know if you have questions about student progress or any class assignments! Have a wonderful week.
