New Semester! Welcome #AVI3O #ENG1D #NBV3E

It’s a new semester! I’d like to welcome all new students and their parents/guardians to class. Second semester always goes by quickly and I promise you that it will be June before you realize it’s June.

I’m pretty pumped about the semester. Grade 11 Art will be tons of fun. The course mixes studio work with some art history, and the group looks pretty good. I have some ideas to play with so hopefully students don’t mind trying out some new ideas.

Grade 9 English will be busy as students tune in to a variety of literary works covering genres like poetry, short stories, novels, and plays. Students will be learning a variety of forms and styles over the course of the semester. Students will also be setting up WordPress blogs to track their learning. In addition, I use a website/app called Remind101, which is a messaging service. Basically, students/parents sign up and receive one-way text message reminders from me about due dates, assignments, etc. It’s pretty cool, (and safe, too!). You can sign up for ENG1D by following these instructions:

Finally, Grade 11 Aboriginal Beliefs and Values will be an interesting opportunity to expand First Nations, Métis, and Intuit culture. I’m planning on partnering with the Thunderbird Friendship Centre to bring in guest speakers to cover topics like traditional art, cooking, cultural activities, and learning. There is also a class textbook, Aboriginal Beliefs, Values, and Aspirations that will help guide our learning.

Finally, I’d like to wish my students the best of luck for Semester Two. If you have questions, need help with assignments, or have ideas please do not hesitate to contact me!
